The Vaccine Research Center's Immuno Technology Section (ITS) within the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is conducting research to develop vaccines and therapeutics for pathogens with pandemic potential (SARS-CoV, Nipah Virus) using a technique called surface plasmon resonance (SPR). The SPR instrument allows ITS to analyze specific immune responses following infection and vaccine induced immune response. This project will seek characterize the qualities of antibodies induced by vaccination or infection. This evaluation allows for the development of next generation vaccines and therapeutics and is used to support ongoing clinical trials evaluating vaccines for SARS-CoV-2 and Nipah virus, as well as evaluate new therapeutic monoclonal antibody candidates.
