Sharps Pickup and Disposal - VA Loma Linda Health Care Systems

The work will require compliance with federal and state regulations including OSHA 29 CFR 1910, FDA Class II medical device standards for containers, ASTM F2132-2008 for sharps container puncture resistance, and California’s Medical Waste Management Act. Containers must be clearly labeled with a 14-point font, color-coded by waste stream—red for sharps and bio-hazardous waste, and non-red/yellow/black for other streams—and equipped with one-way flaps. Reusable containers must withstand 400-500 uses and be cleaned at no additional cost to the government. The contractor must provide monthly poundage reports, maintain an internet-accessible waste classification database updated within 30 days of regulatory changes, and ensure all personnel wear VA-issued PIV badges, comply with VA security protocols, and are enrolled in a medical surveillance program at the contractor’s expense.
