Sign Program Modification with Administrative Relief for Sand Canyon Plaza (File No. 00979725-PSS)

The City of Irvine has authorized a modification to the Sign Program at Sand Canyon Plaza to grant administrative relief from standard zoning ordinance requirements for three sign types. For Sign Type A – Project Sign, relief is permitted to exceed established limits on sign size, panel dimensions, and the number of tenant names displayed, accommodating the plaza’s branding and tenancy needs. Additionally, two new sign types are being introduced: Sign Type F – Festival Banners, which will be allowed to display promotional copy, vary in use beyond typical restrictions, and be installed in non-standard locations for seasonal events, and Sign Type G – In-Line Tenant Blade Sign, which receives approval for reduced minimum ground clearance to enable a more integrated architectural design along pedestrian pathways. These changes are intended to enhance visual appeal, support tenant diversity, and allow flexible, event-driven signage without requiring formal zoning amendments. The modification is effective pending implementation by the City’s planning department and is under the oversight of Associate Planner Michael O’Toole and Project Manager Alex Davies.
