Social and Ecological Resilience across the Landscape 2.0 (SERAL 2.0)

The Social and Ecological Resilience across the Landscape 2.0 (SERAL 2.0) project is a forecast initiative managed by Tuolumne County, California, focusing on the restoration of 118,282 acres within the Stanislaus National Forest. The primary objectives are to restore forest health, sequester greenhouse gases within the Tuolumne Watershed, and increase landscape resilience against natural disturbances such as high-severity fire, insect outbreaks, disease, drought, and climate change. By shifting vegetation structure toward its natural range of variation, the project aims to reduce hazardous fuel accumulations and support local economic opportunities. Implementation will involve a variety of treatments, including prescribed and managed fire, hand and mechanical thinning, mastication, invasive weed control, and limited salvage operations. The project is governed by NEPA decisions, specifically ROD 1 signed July 31, 2024, and ROD 2 signed January 15, 2025. Administratively, the project has been filed for a Notice of Exemption under CEQA guidelines for fuel reduction and habitat restoration. The performance area is located in Tuolumne County, primarily north of the Tuolumne River and west of the Clavey River, with the primary point of contact being the Senior Management Analyst for Forest Health Projects.
