SamTrans1 South Base has a fire waterline that services three (3) buildings, along with three (3) hydrants, and a domestic waterline that services six {6) buildings. Both systems are at the end of their service life and need to be replaced prior to failure. The project would replace the existing system with installation of new fire water and domestic waterlines (along with hydrants) and replace associated pavement work within the project area. Backflow preventers that feed the system would likewise be replaced. Within the project limits is existing transite (asbestos-cement) pipe. If encountered by the contractor, any transite pipe will be safely removed and disposed of in accordance with all applicable regulations.
