The City of Lakeport is undertaking the South Lakeport Water Resiliency and Fire Suppression Annexation Project, which involves the annexation of 27 parcels totaling approximately 74 acres and 0.78 linear miles of road right of way. Located south of the city limits along South Main Street and Soda Bay Road, the project area is within the approved Sphere of Influence and is prezoned for Major Retail uses. The primary objective of the annexation is to improve water resiliency and fire suppression capabilities for an area currently developed with commercial, industrial, and residential uses that lacks a municipal water system. An Initial Study and Environmental Checklist prepared by North Coast Community Planning in September 2026 concluded that the 2009 General Plan EIR and 2014 EIR Addendum are sufficient CEQA documents for this project. The process includes a public comment period running from September 18, 2026, to November 2, 2026. The project addresses potential environmental impacts related to greenhouse gas emissions, cultural resources, asbestos, and visual quality through specific mitigation measures. Administrative oversight is managed by the Community Development Director and the Planning Services Manager for the City of Lakeport.
