On March 31, 2011, the Sustainment Mcpnt Ssc/pkl office within the Department of Defense announced its intent to extend the existing contract with the incumbent, Mantech, to ensure continued specialized security support services. Initially planned as a 3-month sole source extension to allow additional time for completing a competitive acquisition process for a follow-on contract, the extension period was later revised to a maximum of 6 months, starting May 17, 2011, and ending no later than November 16, 2011. This decision was made after consultation with SMC staff, who determined that the initial 3-month timeframe might be insufficient to complete the competitive procurement. Concurrent with this extension, SMC/SY is actively working on issuing the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the follow-on contract under announcement SMC09-41. A draft RFP was released for industry comment on January 28, 2011, and a second draft was scheduled for release during the week of April 25, 2011. Interested parties were advised to monitor announcement SMC09-41 for updates on the RFP release. The contract is associated with NAICS code 541690, and key contacts for the extension include Program Manager Jim T Austin and Contract Manager Diana Ly, both reachable via provided communication channels. The work is managed out of Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado.

On March 31, 2011, SMC/SY posted this announcement (11-46) notifying industry of its intent to issue a 3 month, sole source extension contract to the incumbent, Mantech. The purpose of the extension was to provide SMC additional time to complete the competitive acquisition for the follow-on contract for this effort. After review with SMC staff, the decision was made to revise the extension to no more than 6 months. The assessment at SMC was that 3 months might not be adequate time to complete the competition. The 6 month extension will begin on May 17, 2011 and will go no longer than November 16, 2011. As mentioned in this posting before, SMC/SY is actively working toward issuing the RFP for the follow-on contract under announcement SMC09-41. There was a draft RFP issued on 28 Jan 2011 for industry comment. A second draft RFP is planned to be released the week of April 25, 2011. Please monitor announcement SMC09-41 for information on the release of the second draft RFP. If you have any questions or comments regarding this revised announcement, please notify the points of contact identified in this notice.
