Full Description

This request is for market research only, and does not constitute an Invitation for Bids, a Request for Proposals, a Solicitation, or a Request for Quotes. The Government does not reimburse respondents for any cost associated with submission of the information being requested or reimburse expenses incurred to interested parties for responses to this Sources Sought. The Bureau of Engraving and Printing (BEP) is seeking businesses that can provide specified steel material for the purpose of manufacturing EDM Surface Pieces by EDM processes for the currency program. Vendors must be capable of supplying material and tolerances specified by BEP drawings to maintain ISO standards. Drawings will be sent during solicitation.The material shall be heat treated to specified specifications. All material shall be accompanied with material processing and heat treatment certifications for ISO records. Material will be randomly inspected by BEP Engraving personnel and any material not meeting specifications shall be returned to manufacturer at their cost. There may be a need to add new steel sizes to the list of steel that is required at any time throughout the year. This requirement falls under NAICS code 423510. This is a 100% small business set aside. Technical Requirements: A) Material shall be D-2 tool steel, smelted twice to remove impurities. B) Manufacture material to drawings and tolerances provided by BEP. C) Material shall be heat treated to specified specifications provided by BEP. D) Material shall be ground to drawing specifications with a surface roughness of Ra 0.8 to 1.6 micrometers. All material shall be delivered to BEP in packaging or crates that will eliminate damage to the finished steel. Certification sheets shall accompany all shipments.
