This contract involves USAID's contribution to support services for the October 2014 Grand Challenge Conference in Seattle, a collaborative event co-hosted with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and Grand Challenges Canada, aimed at advancing global health innovations through scientific collaboration. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, as the primary stakeholder, had previously selected Event Dynamics, LLC / Africa Dynamics—a woman-owned small business with a history of exceptional service—to provide audio/video rental equipment, supplies, and setup services for the conference. USAID’s portion of the contract, valued at approximately $150,000, covers part of these expenses to accommodate over 1,000 participants during the four-day event, excluding setup and breakdown days. This single-source acquisition is justified under FAR 13.106-1(b) due to the vendor’s prior selection by the main co-host and established reliability. The conference is strategically significant for USAID as it supports their Grand Challenges for Development program by accelerating the translation of innovative ideas into real-world impacts, particularly under the Saving Lives at Birth initiative. It also helps maintain global recognition for the Grand Challenge model, facilitates high-quality future applications, and enhances collaboration opportunities with scientists, grantees, and funding partners. The contract is categorized as a Women-Owned Small Business set-aside and managed by USAID's office in Washington, D.C., with performance taking place in Seattle, Washington. The coordination leverages existing selections to ensure efficiency, continuity, and successful execution of the event’s logistical needs.
