Environment and Climate Change Canada requires support on methodology, data and assumptions to improve in-house electricity sector capacity expansion model called NextGrid as detailed in the Statement of Work, Annex A to the bid solicitation.
The main objective of this requirement is to support ECCC in their work on the inclusion of trade with the United States in their NextGrid capacity expansion model. Specifically, the objectives are:
1. To identify existing datasets that could be used to create a representation of the U.S. in NextGrid;
2. To provide a methodology for converting these existing datasets into simplified representations of the U.S. in NextGrid;
3. To identify, and support the integration of, existing market-specific characteristics that impact how electricity is traded between the U.S. and Canadian provinces.
4. To propose future scenarios beyond the status quo for Canada-U.S. intertie development and energy/capacity contracts; and
5. Provide support in interpreting the outcomes of the implementation of the above in NextGrid.
