Swimming Stone Brick Paver Replacement

The City of Aurora is soliciting bids for the replacement of 1,000 square feet of brick pavers at the Swimming Stones water feature located at 1 W Benton Street, with work to be performed exclusively by a Unilock-approved subcontractor whose certification must be submitted with the bid. The scope includes removal and replacement of both the outer ring and inner circle using Unilock IL Campo Black pavers, installation of up to a 3/4-inch layer of leveling sand, joint filling with engineer-approved nitro joint sand, and replacement of the existing concrete barrier curb with a new 6-inch-wide flush curb. The contractor is required to purchase a minimum of 3,000 square feet of pavers to secure volume pricing, with excess material delivered to the City’s storage location at 339 Middle Avenue. All work must comply with the City of Aurora General Specifications, Illinois Department of Transportation standards, and Standard Specifications for Water and Sewer Main Construction in Illinois, Seventh Edition, with materials conforming to ASTM standards when specific specs are not provided. The contract mandates a Performance and Payment Bond equal to 100% of the contract value, with the bond term lasting one year and auto-renewal for a second year. Insurance requirements include Workers’ Compensation at statutory levels, General Liability of $1 million per occurrence and $2 million aggregate, Auto Liability of $1 million, and Umbrella Excess Liability of $2 million per occurrence and aggregate, with policies issued by companies rated A:VII or higher by A.M. Best and licensed in Illinois. The contractor must comply with all Federal, State, and local laws including the Illinois Prevailing Wage Act, OSHA, non-discrimination statutes, and the Drug-Free Workplace Act, and must participate in a registered apprenticeship program if the contract exceeds $25,000. All workers must be properly trained, with the City retaining the right to remove any personnel deemed objectionable. The project must begin no earlier than October 15, 2026, and be completed by November 20, 2026, with the adjacent Benton Street walkway required to be open to pedestrians on October 30 and 31, 2026. A $4,000 allowance is included for items ordered by the Engineer, and payment is made upon submission of invoices via email or mail to the Purchasing Division using the assigned Purchase Order Number and electronically through EFT whenever possible.
