Timber Trails Tank and Pump Station Project

The Timber Trails Tank and Pump Station Project, managed by the Calaveras County Water District, involves the replacement of a deteriorating redwood potable water storage tank with a new, upsized ignition-resistant steel tank and the relocation of an existing pump station to a modern, energy-efficient facility with emergency power capabilities. The scope of work includes demolition and removal of existing infrastructure, electrical improvements, water quality enhancements, and the upgrading of inlet, outlet, overflow, and drain piping. Additionally, the project incorporates site-hardening measures, such as implementing defensible space and wildfire fuel reduction to protect critical community facilities. Construction is scheduled to begin in April 2028 and is expected to be completed by December 2029, spanning a 20-month period. The storage tank will be located on a CCWD easement on U.S. Forest Service land, while the pump station work will occur on the right-of-way adjacent to Sheep Ranch Road. Technical requirements specify the use of Class 2 aggregate base and engineered fill compacted to 95 percent relative density. Compliance measures include adhering to Calaveras County noise ordinances by limiting work to 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, following federal and state hazardous materials laws, and conducting public outreach through website updates, brochures, and at least one public meeting. The project is categorized as exempt from CEQA requirements under Section 15302(c).
