Alameda County's Community Development Agency (CDA) will develop a comprehensive Urban Forest Plan (UFP) to equitably increase tree canopy over the next 50 years within the County's unincorporated urban communities, which currently suffer from low canopy cover, especially in disadvantaged areas. The project will engage consultants to guide the UFP's development, which includes creating a multilingual, equity-focused Community Engagement Plan, conducting assessments like a Tree Canopy Equity and Urban Heat Assessment, and updating the Recommended Tree List with climate-smart species. Crucially, the UFP
will include a pilot workforce development program to engage Priority Population job seekers in developing a Public Tree Inventory, ultimately setting clear goals and metrics for tree planting, policy review, and funding needed to ensure the long-term
protection and maintenance of the urban forest.
