Upgrade Fire Suppression systems and Extra Insulation to Buildings with Fire Suppression Systems to Prevent Freezing and Meet Current Safety Requirements

The Department of the Interior is seeking to upgrade fire suppression systems across 72 park buildings to prevent freezing and ensure compliance with current safety requirements. The project involves removing attic sprinkler heads and piping from unheated attic spaces and installing vapor barriers and additional insulation to protect ceiling piping and heads. The system will be maintained as an antifreeze system using lower NFPA concentrations, invoking NFPA 13.5.3.3.4.1(2) to allow for higher antifreeze concentrations based on the location of sprinkler heads in unoccupied areas. To ensure regulatory compliance, a third party risk assessment will be conducted to document the variance.
