The Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s (MTA) Department of Buses (DOB) is exploring the potential implementation of a drone program aimed at enhancing the efficiency of its bus operations. Through a Request for Information (RFI), the DOB is inviting input from vendors on the latest advancements and industry standards for drone technology that can be applied to manage and oversee bus operations. The program’s core objectives include deploying drones to provide real-time data on the location of bus assets within depot facilities and monitoring vehicular traffic patterns along MTA bus service routes. The DOB is receptive to both newly developed technologies and commercial off-the-shelf systems that can fulfill these requirements. This RFI is a preliminary step, seeking to identify optimal solutions that meet the agency's needs before any formal solicitation of proposals. The initiative is open to all qualified vendors who must register with the MTA Vendor Portal to acquire the necessary documentation. The RFI documents are available at no cost from November 20, 2024, with a submission deadline of December 18, 2024. The project is potentially valued between $5,000,000 and $15,000,000 and does not include a set-aside for service-disabled veteran-owned businesses. This effort spans all counties within New York State, aiming for a cutting-edge approach to streamline and improve public transportation services through innovative aerial technology.
