The USS MT WHITNEY (LCC 20) requires a refurbished SSTG Turbine and Reduction Gear Assembly to address power generation reliability issues for the ship. This equipment must meet the requirements of the NAVSEA Technical Manual 0961-LP-020-8010, 2,000KW AC Geared Turbine Generator and the SMS procedure 10.9-001-SQ. Acquiring these parts for the planned repairs will improve the reliability of the USS MT WHITNEY's Main Propulsion Plant and Main Power Generation Plant. This will increase the vessels ability to accomplish its mission requirements. These parts require a high level of specialized knowledge and experience to ensure system redundancy, particularly when repairs or replacement parts are required for the Steam Turbines and Reduction Gears.
