Full Description

The Valencia Water Reclamation Plant (VWRP) is one of two water reclamation plants owned by the Santa Clarita Valley Sanitation District and serves the City of Santa Clarita and a portion of unincorporated Los Angeles County. Continuous operations of the VWRP are critical for the ability of the SCVSD to provide essential service to over 200,000 residents. The Outfall 001 is currently the only outfall utilized by VWRP to discharge treated wastewater (effluent) into a tributary to the Santa Clara River, a Water of the United States under the Clean Water Act. The concrete channel of Outfall 001 has experienced significant vertical and horizontal movements that a portion of the concrete channel is broken. Underneath the compromised section, a scoured void is observed, leaving the structure vulnerable to collapse. While a second outfall (Outfall 002) exists at the VWRP, it is designated to handle stormwater overflows. It also has a lesser capacity and cannot handle the peak flow from the VWRP. Therefore, the purpose of the project is to repair the Outfall 001 concrete channel to ensure continuous operations at the VWRP.
