The Town of Vernon plans to extend public potable water service to approximately 173 properties within the Vernon Center area by establishing the Vernon Center Water District and connecting to the Village of Vernon's existing water system. This project aims to replace the current private wells, which are inadequate in water quality and volume, with a reliable municipal water supply. The infrastructure improvements include constructing a booster pumping station, an elevated water storage tank, and laying about 6.2 miles of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) water main, along with installing valves, fire hydrants, air release valves, and other necessary appurtenances to support the distribution system. The project is divided into three separate contracts: one for the booster pump station with a completion timeline of 210 days, another for the elevated water storage tank to be completed in 300 days, and a third for the water distribution system and related components, which has a total duration of 430 days from the notice to proceed. Bidding is scheduled to close on May 30, 2025, with a contract term of 430 days. The project emphasizes diversity and inclusion, setting goals for minority-owned and women-owned subcontracting at 15% each, and a 6% goal for service-disabled veteran-owned businesses. The contract is overseen by the Town of Vernon, and the project is located in Oneida County, New York.
