The Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) requires institutions to implement Animal Care Committees (ACCs) to report on and oversee animal use and protocols. It is mandated by the CCAC policies that all facilities where animals are used in science or research have regular inspections by a qualified veterinarian, and that this veterinarian be available to respond to emergency situations for as long as the laboratory holds animals, which, for the wet lab at Centre St. Laurent, is ongoing. The consulting veterinarian based in the Montréal area will be responsible for providing veterinary advice to Departmental researchers and research team members and to the animal care committee, participating in animal care committee meetings, participating in review and provide emergency services.
