This contract involves the procurement and delivery of a comprehensive set of products designed to protect recently planted seedlings from animal damage within the Ochoco National Forest. The primary items include 15,000 rigid seedling tubes, primarily 4 inches by 20 inches in size constructed from polyethylene and polypropylene with diamond mesh, which serve to prevent wildlife and cattle from browsing on young plants. Accompanying these are 193,500 shade card wickets and 193,500 shade card envelopes, which are used to provide shade and support for the seedlings. The shade envelopes are made of photo-degradable black polyolefin mesh, with wire wickets that help secure the shade structures to the ground; both components are designed to degrade over approximately five years, ensuring environmental compatibility. All products must be delivered in boxes ranging from 250 to 500 units, securely palletized for forklift handling, to the Ochoco Tree Cooler located at NE Ranger Station Loop in Prineville, Oregon. The contract emphasizes environmentally friendly materials that degrade naturally over time, aligning with ecological restoration goals. The solicitation, issued by the USDA Forest Service’s Department of Agriculture, is set aside for small businesses under the NAICS code 339999, with responses due by March 24, 2025. The contract aims to support reforestation efforts by providing durable, degradable materials that safeguard seedlings during their critical early growth stages.
