Full Description

The Norfolk Harbor and Channels Navigation Improvement, Atlantic Ocean Channel (AOC) Phase 2, located in Hampton Roads, VA, This section of channel was selected as Phase 2 to support one or more of three optional beneficial use projects. These optional beneficial use projects include beach nourishment activities at Resort Beach and Croatan Beach in Virginia Beach and supplying dredged material at Craney Island Dredged Material Management Area (CIDMMA) for use in raising containment dikes. The Contractor shall be responsible for the following: dredging within the designated areas to the proposed required and allowable pay depths, placement and maintenance of material/sites at applicable placement sites, and communicating with the Port of Virginia maritime users to minimize impacts to vessel traffic, and dredging operations. Required work includes performing deepening and widening (new work) dredging by mechanical or trailing suction hopper dredge, or combination of both. For Phase 2, the channel includes dredging a major portion of the channel of 43,774 feet in length, 1,000 feet in width and to a required depth of -59 feet below mean lower low water (MLLW) datum with an allowable depth of -60 feet MLLW. Approximately 3.1 million cubic yards of material will be removed with Phase 2. The base scope of work includes placement of dredged material at Dam Neck Ocean Disposal Site (DNODS) in cells 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 based upon material type.
