Waste and Recycling Collection Services for Educational Facilities

The Wake County Public School System (WCPSS), which is North Carolina's largest school district and the 15th largest in the United States, is seeking to secure a contract for waste and recycling collection services across its 199 schools. The initiative is aimed at efficiently managing waste while promoting recycling among its approximately 160,000 student population. The selected contractor will be responsible for providing collection containers, hauling services, waste disposal, and processing materials specifically focusing on Old Corrugated Cardboard (OCC) for recycling and Solid Waste (MSW) for landfill disposal. Key services under the contract include offering waste and cardboard collection at specified sites with a flexible collection frequency ranging from six days a week to once a month, responding rapidly to emergency pick-up requests within 24 hours, and maintaining all equipment in operational condition. Additionally, the contractor must manage all associated costs, including landfill tipping fees, and ensure compliance with local ordinances regarding the use of container enclosures. The contract is set to start on July 1, 2025, and will extend through June 30, 2026, with the possibility of four additional one-year extensions. This contract will serve various WCPSS facilities throughout Wake County, North Carolina, reflecting a concerted effort to align operational practices with environmental sustainability objectives.
