The Federal Correctional Institution McDowell in Welch, West Virginia, is seeking to replace existing failing potable water heaters with six new units designed to meet specific capacity and efficiency requirements. The contract involves purchasing four water heaters with a capacity of 750 to 800 KBTU and two with 285 KBTU, all natural gas-fired and capable of cascading with other units. These units must have an efficiency of at least 95%, fit within a 48-inch width and depth footprint, and weigh no more than 550 pounds to accommodate freight restrictions. Additionally, they should feature a minimum five-year heat exchanger warranty and a one-year parts warranty. This procurement is set aside exclusively for small businesses under the SBA Total Small Business Set-Aside program, with a response deadline of July 16, 2025. The contract is managed by the Department of Justice's Office of the Federal Bureau of Prisons, with technical inquiries directed to Eric Ratcliff. The project emphasizes the need for units that are specifically designed for potable hot water, with appropriate gas and water connections, and the ability to be integrated into the existing infrastructure.
