Water System Reconstruction Project - Water Supply and Storage Improvements

The Mendocino Unified School District is implementing the Water System Reconstruction Project for Water Supply and Storage Improvements at 44020 Little Lake Road in Mendocino County, California. This project aims to address system deficiencies identified by the State Water Resources Control Board and replace aging infrastructure. The scope of work includes the deconstruction and replacement of two water storage tanks to meet current seismic design standards and NFPA and California Fire Code requirements, the replacement of the water treatment building, the reconstruction of two groundwater supply wells, and the conversion of a test well into an operational supply well. Additionally, the project involves developing potable water storage and drilling new groundwater test wells through the Urban and Multibenefit Drought Relief grant program. A critical modification to the project involves a stream restoration component developed in coordination with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to satisfy Coastal Development Permit amendment requirements. This effort includes rerouting and restoring an existing watercourse to establish a new open channel, capping culverts, and planting native vegetation to improve channel stability and overall stream function. The project has undergone environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act, resulting in a Subsequent Mitigated Negative Declaration and associated Notices of Determination from the State Water Resources Control Board and the Department of Fish and Wildlife, confirming that the project will not have a significant environmental effect.
