Weaver Creek Habitat Restoration Project

The Weaver Creek Habitat Restoration Project is a partnership between the Yurok Tribe and the Nor Rel Muk Wintu Nation, managed by the Trinity County Natural Resources Division of the Community Development Department. Located in Weaverville, Trinity County, California, the project aims to conserve, restore, and protect native fish and wildlife habitats, specifically benefiting threatened coho salmon. The project is designated as a forecast under NAICS code 541620 and is exempt from the California Environmental Quality Act under Public Resources Code section 21080.56, with concurrence from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. Implementation is anticipated to occur from September 2025 through November 2031. The scope of work focuses on increasing the floodplain footprint and the frequency of inundation through terrace lowering and the installation of hydraulic controls to promote overbank flooding during the winter wet season. Key deliverables include the realignment of a baseflow channel, the creation of a network of floodplain swales, and the establishment of a single threaded wet channel to maintain summer baseflow conditions. Additionally, the project involves removing invasive vegetation and implementing native revegetation, as well as installing a grade control structure to encourage alluvial material deposition and protect critical water and sewer pipelines from failure.
