This contract involves the design, development, furnishing, installation, and testing of a pilot project aimed at demonstrating automatic precise station stopping of eight-car trains at eight rail stations on WMATA's Red Line. The project requires achieving a stopping accuracy within +/- 3 feet for 99.999% of both normal and reverse stops, which may be realized through hardware or software modifications to the trains and/or wayside systems. The expected timeline includes approximately eight months for evaluation, design, and installation following the notice to proceed, with an additional four months allocated for testing. Following successful completion and subject to approval by the WMATA Board, there is potential for the selected contractor to negotiate further work for implementing this system across part or all of WMATA's 106-mile rail network. The Request for Proposals (RFP) will be available at a cost of $50 starting at the end of August 2003. Technical inquiries can be directed to the Systems Project Manager, while requests for the RFP package should be submitted to the Department of Procurement. The contract administrator listed is Shehzad M Rajpal, who can be contacted by phone or email for additional information.
