What does 60 Cons do?

The 60 Cons, under the Department of the Air Force, focuses on sustaining critical airbase infrastructure and operational readiness through specialized maintenance, environmental control, and mission-critical equipment procurement. Its core mission centers on ensuring the reliability of life safety, air quality, and fuel systems essential to expeditionary and garrison operations. Strategic priorities include enhancing facility resilience, modernizing fire suppression and ventilation systems, and maintaining compliance with stringent military environmental and safety standards. Key programs emphasize rapid repair of high-impact systems such as gas mask fit testing, fuel dispensing, and air purification equipment, with an emphasis on minimizing downtime in operational environments. Procurement patterns reveal a strong reliance on specialized industrial maintenance and precision equipment manufacturing. The agency frequently utilizes combined and solicitation-type contracts to acquire integrated solutions for complex systems, particularly those requiring design-build capabilities or specialized repair services. Contract vehicles are tailored to address technical specificity, often combining engineering, installation, and maintenance under single awards to ensure system integrity and rapid field deployment. Industry preferences target niche manufacturers and repair specialists in industrial fan and blower systems, pumping equipment, and precision control devices. The agency consistently prioritizes Small Business Administration set-asides, indicating a deliberate strategy to engage qualified small and disadvantaged firms with technical expertise in niche industrial sectors. A single HZC set-aside suggests targeted outreach to historically underutilized business zones, reinforcing a commitment to geographic and socioeconomic diversity in vendor selection. As a unit of the Department of the Air Force, 60 Cons operates with a mission-critical, non-geographically constrained scope, supporting Air Force installations nationwide through specialized procurement. It leverages tailored contracting mechanisms to acquire high-reliability equipment and services, ensuring airbase systems remain operational under austere and demanding conditions.
