The Big Muddy River Correctional Center, under the Illinois Department of Corrections, is dedicated to maintaining the operational integrity and safety of correctional infrastructure through targeted maintenance and facility modernization. Its core mission centers on ensuring the reliable function of critical mechanical, electrical, and building systems that support secure and humane incarceration environments. Strategic priorities include the upkeep of pneumatic and air compression systems essential for facility automation, the modernization of building automation controls, and the repair of specialized security equipment such as bar screens—critical components in inmate housing and perimeter control. The agency prioritizes continuity of operations, minimizing downtime through preventive maintenance and system upgrades that align with correctional safety standards.
Procurement activity reflects a focus on specialized facility services rather than general supplies. The agency routinely solicits contracts for the repair and maintenance of industrial machinery, installation of building automation systems, and replacement of critical mechanical components. Contracts are typically issued as sole-source or competitive solicitations under standard government procurement vehicles, emphasizing performance-based specifications and technical compliance over cost alone.
Industry engagement is concentrated in NAICS 333912 (air and gas compressor manufacturing), 238290 (other building equipment contractors), and 811310 (commercial and industrial machinery repair). The agency consistently seeks vendors with proven expertise in industrial pneumatics, facility automation integration, and security-related mechanical repairs. No set-aside preferences are indicated, suggesting procurement decisions are driven by technical capability and system compatibility rather than socioeconomic criteria.
Operational scope is limited to the Big Muddy River Correctional Center, with no indication of regional or multi-facility oversight. As a single-site facility under the Illinois Department of Corrections, it relies on direct procurement mechanisms to fulfill mission-critical infrastructure needs, using standardized solicitation formats to engage qualified technical contractors.
