What does F4FDAG Aflcmc Wig Global Hawk do?

The F4FDAG Aflcmc Wig Global Hawk, operating under the Department of the Air Force, is dedicated to advancing high-altitude, long-endurance unmanned aerial systems for strategic reconnaissance and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions. Its core mission centers on sustaining and modernizing the Global Hawk platform—a critical asset for persistent surveillance across contested and remote theaters. Strategic priorities include maintaining operational readiness of existing platforms, integrating next-generation sensors and communications payloads, and ensuring interoperability with joint and coalition forces. The agency prioritizes technological resilience, autonomous system upgrades, and sustainment of mission-critical avionics to support enduring global surveillance requirements. Procurement activity is narrowly focused on the manufacture and integration of advanced unmanned aerial vehicles, with aircraft manufacturing as the dominant procurement category. Contracts are typically awarded through sole-source justification mechanisms, reflecting the specialized nature of the Global Hawk platform and the limited industrial base capable of supporting its unique design and mission systems. The agency relies on direct contracting vehicles that enable rapid integration of classified and proprietary technologies, bypassing competitive bidding where national security imperatives dictate exclusivity. Industry preferences are concentrated in the aerospace defense sector, specifically firms with expertise in high-altitude unmanned systems, advanced avionics, and mission-specific sensor integration under NAICS 336411. There is no evidence of set-aside preferences or targeted diversity initiatives, indicating procurement decisions are driven by technical exclusivity rather than socioeconomic criteria. Vendor relationships are characterized by long-term, single-source partnerships with prime contractors possessing deep domain knowledge and secure manufacturing capabilities. As a component of the Department of the Air Force, F4FDAG operates with a specialized, mission-focused structure centered on unmanned systems acquisition. It functions without a fixed geographic footprint, coordinating across defense industrial base partners and operational commands to deliver integrated air domain awareness capabilities. The agency employs non-competitive and sole-source procurement vehicles to ensure continuity, security, and technical fidelity in sustaining its flagship platforms.
