Upon completion, the old bridge will be demolished, and a portion of the original right-of-way will be transferred to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife to benefit the wildlife preserve. The project is designed to meet or exceed County, AASHTO, and Caltrans standards to ensure safety for all users, including emergency vehicles, and to comply with regional transportation goals. No rehabilitation or repair of the existing structure is viable due to its substandard design and deteriorated condition, and under a No Build alternative, the bridge’s continued degradation would lead to environmental and safety impacts under both CEQA and the National Historic Preservation Act.
