The project involves the cleaning and painting of the entire main truss span of the Carquinez Bridge and Overhead in Vallejo, California, under the jurisdiction of Caltrans District 4. The scope of work encompasses superstructural trusses, the deck floor system, traveler and barrier rails, substructure towers, and other miscellaneous metal features. In addition to painting, the project includes miscellaneous structural repairs, access improvements, and the installation of vandalism-resistant fencing and gates to secure the bridge catwalk under the Pomona Street on-ramp. The project is classified as a categorical exemption under CEQA and a categorical exclusion under NEPA. Due to the nature of the work, the contractor must adhere to strict environmental and safety standards, including Cal/OSHA lead and asbestos regulations and the DTSC-Caltrans ADL Soil Management Agreement for hazardous waste handling. Key requirements include notifying the Bay Area Air Quality Management District before starting work, implementing erosion control at staging areas, and conducting pre-construction bat roosting surveys.
