2026 Volunteer Fire Capacity Grant
Solicitation # 2139681
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation is administering the 2026 Volunteer Fire Capacity Grant Program, funded by a federal appropriation of 857,629 dollars. This program provides matching grants to eligible rural fire departments for the purchase of wildland firefighting suppression supplies. To be eligible, departments must be comprised of at least 80 percent volunteer personnel and serve a rural area, defined as a town or village with a population of 10,000 or less based on the 2020 Census. Selected departments can receive a maximum award of 3,500 dollars, which must be matched 50/50 by the recipient. Grant funds must be used for items directly related to wildland firefighting that benefit the local rural community, with a restriction that no individual item exceeds 9,999 dollars. Selection is based on the department's funding history over the previous five years, whether it is a newly formed establishment, and the presence of a Native American community within its jurisdiction. The program operates under federal guidelines from the US Forest Service and the Cooperative Forestry Assistance Act of 1978. Applications are accepted through December 30, 2026. This solicitation does not have specific goals for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned, Minority, Women, or Disadvantaged Business Enterprises. All inquiries and applications are managed by the Volunteer Fire Capacity Grant Coordinator within the Division of Forest Protection.

The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) has issued a Request for Information (RFI) to gather data and gauge interest from qualified proposers regarding particulate blocking hoods. The initiative aims to identify potential suppliers capable of providing a minimum of 9,000 units annually that meet NFPA 1971 standards and other relevant safety requirements. The RFI emphasizes fostering competition and transparency, with responses exclusively submitted through the PASSPort platform, accessible via a specific EPIN code. The document specifies that submission of information does not constitute a contractual obligation and highlights confidentiality and indemnification considerations. The deadline for responses is November 24, 2025, and questions regarding the RFI must be submitted at least ten business days prior to this date, with answers provided through official addenda. The contract size is estimated to range between $500,000 and $2,000,000, and the primary point of contact for inquiries is Huiyun Tseng. This process is part of the FDNY’s effort to evaluate the market for fire-resistant particulate blocking hoods to enhance firefighter safety and equipment standards.
