AI Contract Overview
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking information on potential sources for three 10-watt continuous-wave pump lasers operating at 532 nm, with a strong intent to sole source the procurement to Newport Corp. if no other qualified vendors are identified. The lasers must meet stringent technical specifications including a TEM00 spatial mode, beam quality under M2 of 1.1, precise beam diameter and divergence, polarization ratio greater than 100:1, power stability within ±1% over two hours, and ultra-low noise levels. Each unit must be compatible with existing Coherent Mira and Spectra-Physics Tsunami Ti:Sapphire lasers, include integrated closed-loop chillers, operate on standard 110 VAC power with less than 350 W consumption, and function reliably within environmental conditions of 18–35°C and 8–85% non-condensing humidity. The requirement also includes two custom platforms to align the laser beam heights with those of the existing systems, and the vendor must guarantee that the lasers will enable the Tsunami lasers to meet their original performance standards. Market research conducted by NIST between September 2025 and April 2026 found that only Newport Corp. currently meets all specified requirements, prompting this combined sources sought and sole source intent notice. Interested parties are invited to submit non-proprietarily information by July 21, 2026, detailing their company’s capability, authorization status, business size, NAICS code suitability, relevant contracts, and experience with similar products, along with feedback on whether any requirements are unduly restrictive. Responses must be submitted in Word, Excel, or PDF format to designated NIST contacts and should not include confidential or proprietary details. This notice does not constitute a solicitation or binding commitment to award a contract; it is solely for market research purposes to inform a future procurement decision, and respondents bear all costs associated with their submissions.

Full Description
***THIS IS A COMBINED SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE AND NOTICE OF INTENT TO SOLE SOURCE***
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) is seeking information from sources that may be capable of providing three (3) 10-W continuous-wave pump lasers at 532nm. If no alternate sources are identified, the Government intends to issue a Sole Source Award to Newport Corp., 1791 Deere AVE Irvine, CA 92606 (UEI: JH1RHJ5R7TT1) under the authority of FAR 12.102(a). The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516.
NIST has a need for three (3) 10 Watt continuous-wave pump lasers at 532 nm that meets or exceeds the following draft minimum specifications:
- Technical Specifications
- Compatible with existing Coherent Mira Ti:Sapphire laser
- Output Characteristics
- Output Power 10 W
- Wavelength 532 nm
- Spatial Mode TEM00
- Beam Quality (M2) <1.1
- Beam Diameter (1/e2) 2.3 mm ±10%
- Beam Divergence <0.5 mrad
- Polarization >100:1 vertical
- Power Stability ±1% (Measured over 2-hour period, after a 30-minute warm-up)
- Beam Pointing Stability 2 µrad/ °C (Measured at farfield, after a 30 minute warm-up)
- Noise <0.04% rms (Measured over a 10 Hz to 0.1 GHz bandwidth at the 10 W output power)
- Two Platforms to match the pumps’ lasers’ beam height to the input beam heights of the two Spectra-Physics Tsunami lasers and one Coherent Mira laser should be included in the purchase.
- Pump lasers must include a guarantee that they will allow our existing Spectra-Physics Tsunami laser to meet its original specifications.
- Power Requirements
- Operating Voltage 110 VAC, 60 Hz
- Power Consumption <350 W (max)
- Environmental Specifications
- Operating Temperature 64-95°F (18-35°C)
- Relative Humidity 8-85%, non-condensing
- Cooling Requirements: Closed-loop chiller included for each pump laser
NIST conducted market research from September 2025 to April 2026 by attending conferences, speaking with colleagues, performing internet searches, and speaking with vendors to determine what sources could meet NIST’s minimum requirements. The results of that market research revealed that only Newport Corp (UEI: JH1RHJ5R7TT1) appears to be capable of meeting NIST’s requirements.
