1026-006: California Geological Survey (CGS) Style Guide

The California Department of Conservation is soliciting services for the California Geological Survey to develop a comprehensive style guide and standardized framework for scientific writing, data reporting, and peer review processes. The selected contractor will create formal guidance documents and Microsoft Word-based templates covering writing standards, technical communication, and naming conventions for geologic formations. These deliverables must align with state accessibility standards and established scientific practices, specifically those of the United States Geological Survey and the Geological Society of America. The project includes the establishment of a formal internal peer review process to ensure scientific accuracy, data integrity, and reproducibility across all department publications. The contract period of performance runs from December 1, 2026, through November 30, 2027, with specific milestones for writing standards by February 16, data reporting guidance by May 2, style guides by July 17, and the peer review process by October 2, 2027. Award will be granted to the most responsive and responsible bidder offering the lowest cost, with a pass/fail evaluation of mandatory requirements. Preference and incentives are available for certified Small Businesses, Microbusinesses, and Disabled Veteran Business Enterprises. Bids must be submitted by November 17, 2026, and must include a comprehensive set of twelve attachments, including certifications for the Darfur Act, Iran Act, and California Civil Rights Laws.
