The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Region 3, plans to sole source the procurement of Code Wire Tags (CWT) under Solicitation No. F13PS00099, pursuant to FAR 6.302-1, which allows contracting from only one responsible source when no other supplies or services can meet the agency’s needs. These CWTs are critical components used in both automatic and manual Fish Trailer systems that have been previously obtained from Northwest Marine Technology, Inc., located in Shaw Island, Washington. These systems play a vital role in the mass marking and fin-clipping of juvenile salmon and trout as part of a comprehensive Great Lakes region program focused on monitoring fish stocking performance, natural reproduction, growth, age, and movement. Northwest Marine Technology holds patents for the integral parts of these Fish Trailer systems, reinforcing the sole source justification. This acquisition falls under the NAICS code 112511, which pertains to finfish farming and fish hatcheries, and the Fish and Wildlife Service encourages firms capable of supplying these Code Wire Tags to contact the contracting officer, Richard Hillard. The contract will be managed by the FWS Headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia. This effort ensures that the agency continues to obtain the unique and patented tagging components necessary for its fish mass marking program, critical for fisheries management and biological research.
