The City of Statesboro's Engineering Department has issued a request for proposals to develop detailed intersection designs for the Cawana Road project, focusing on adding turn lanes to accommodate future traffic volumes. The scope includes evaluating the need for traffic control features such as right turn yields, concrete islands, and traffic signals, with a Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) standard ICE analysis guiding these decisions. If a traffic signal is not immediately warranted, the design must still incorporate infrastructure elements like pull boxes and conduit to support future signal installation, along with sufficient right-of-way to facilitate this expansion. All design work must adhere to current AASHTO, MUTCD, and GDOT standards, with the final plan presentation aligned with GDOT's Project Planning and Programming Guidelines. The project is funded through City TSPLOST funds, emphasizing the importance of compliance and strategic planning. Proposals are due by April 17, 2024, at 3:00 PM EST, and interested firms can request bid documents via email. The solicitation, identified as 61650 STATESBORO, PE-61650-NONST-2024-000000017, was posted on March 14, 2024. The project is managed by Darren Prather, who can be contacted by email or phone for further information.
