The Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) plans to issue an Advanced Acquisition Contract to Rolls Royce Corporation to procure four T56-A-427 engines for the FY 04 production of E-2C aircraft. This contract will be finalized as a firm fixed price agreement and will include a life-of-type buyout of material components tied to the engine control systems, which are becoming obsolete. Rolls Royce is the sole manufacturer of these engines and possesses exclusive technical expertise and data, making the company the only viable source to fulfill the fleet's operational requirements in a timely manner. This contract, issued on a sole source basis, underscores the critical need to maintain production schedules and support operational readiness for the E-2C platform. The acquisition will help address obsolescence issues by securing necessary materials for the lifecycle of the engines. Administered by NAVAIR, based in Patuxent River, Maryland, this effort ensures continued supply and sustainment of the T56-A-427 turbo propeller engines essential for Navy aircraft performance and reliability.
