The U.S. Department of Energy's National Energy Technology Laboratory in Pittsburgh issued a solicitation for a specialized slurry pump identified as the Caster Model MTA1011S3T5-HP275/HT. This pump is a magnetic drive single-stage regenerative turbine designed for high pressure and high-temperature applications. Its construction includes a machined 316 stainless steel casing, Hastelloy C-276 containment shell, silicon carbide bearings, and dual samarium cobalt high-temperature magnetic couplings. It operates at 1750 rpm with a rated duty of 14 gallons per minute at 70 feet total dynamic head, requiring 1.6 brake horsepower, powered by a 3 hp inverter-duty, totally enclosed fan-cooled motor. The pump can handle flow rates ranging from 3 to 26 GPM, with a maximum continuous operating temperature of 410°F and system pressures up to 2650 psig, hydrotested to 4000 psig. It is designed for tough slurry conditions involving fine rock particles suspended in a saline solution with CO2 gas, with slurry concentrations potentially up to 40%. The pump assembly includes a cast iron oil-lubricated ball bearing frame and a custom-fabricated steel external bracket for pedestal mounting. The suction and discharge ports are each 1 inch, configured as required by the application. The solicitation emphasizes the need for a centrifugal-type pump body capable of variable flow rates through a variable speed motor, the ability to withstand significant process pressure and temperature, and a magnetic drive coupling to ensure sealed operation. Offers responding to this solicitation must provide comprehensive technical documentation verifying that all specifications are met. Deliveries are to be made to the Department’s Albany Research Center in Oregon, with proposals due by February 15, 2002, under solicitation number DE-RQ26-02NT200163, following Federal Acquisition Regulations for commercial item procurement.
