Creating a ligature-resistant health care setting is important to preventing patient suicide and self-harm. The highest risk areas are those where the patient is alone and unsupervised such as a bathroom. Units 21/22 at the Northport VA Medical Center are undergoing renovations which will include new ADA compliant, ligature-resistance fixtures to improve the overall behavioral health space for the patient and comply with VA and patient safety regulations.
