The contract involves the procurement and installation of the AWS520 voice reporting system for the Vagabond Army Airfield (VAAF), which includes an AUD211 voice module, VHF radio, antenna, weatherproof enclosure, radiation shield, power supply, and installation accessories. This upgrade supports the replacement of the existing Automated Weather Observation System (AWOS) with a new FMQ-22 model scheduled for May 2011. Since the new AWOS lacks built-in voice transmission capabilities, this contract ensures the critical communication function is provided, which is essential for the health, safety, and operational efficiency of crewmembers and passengers within VAAF's airspace, particularly given the airfield's remote location and absence of on-site weather personnel. The contract is managed by the Department of Defense under the W6QM Micc-jb Lewis-mc Chord office and falls under NAICS code 334519, related to radio and communications equipment manufacturing. The scope emphasizes that the transmission capability is a mandatory safety feature, and the work includes field service day arrangements to ensure proper installation and functionality. The address of the overseeing office is Joint Base Lewis McChord, Washington. This solution ensures continuous and reliable weather reporting vital for aviation operations at VAAF.
