The Government shall and has provided the contractor the majority of the components used to assemble the Remote Radio Activated Sound Signal (RRASS). 1. SCOPE: The U.S. Coast Guard Command and Control Engineering Center (C2CEN) has developed a new Government-Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) product referred to as the 1SG38-RRASS - REMOTE RADIO ACTIVATED SOUND SIGNAL UNIT. This unit will control the operation of various Short Range Aids to Navigation (SRAN) navigational devices (e.g., Sound Signals, Rotating beacons, Lanterns, etc.) that are located in remote locations. The contractor will be tasked to mount components, assemble cables, interconnect wiring and label the units in accordance with the technical specifications provided in this document. The 1SG38-RRASS unit consists of a BL2030(0VST9) Single Board Computer (SBC) housed within a NEMA Type 4.4X.12.13 environmental proof container along with a 1J5T2-DL-3400 VHF Transceiver/Modem, an eight (8) position Configuration Dip Switch (CDS), a 3-Pole Double Throw (3PDT) Type Selector Switch, a relay, and a IS-50NX-C2(61114) Lightning Arrestor. The transceiver/modem unit consists of the 1J5T2-DL-3282 Modem and the 1J5T2-DL-4010 VHF Transceiver that operates at a frequency of 164.3 MHz. The lightning arrestor is installed to protect the unit from a possible lightning strike to the FG1620 (0RM74) VHF unity gain antenna. The setting of the CDS determines how the 1SG38-RRASS unit is configured. The 1SG38-RRASS unit is designed to work with most SRAN equipments. In most SRAN configurations one 1SG38-RRASS unit is configured as a Control Unit (CU) and is connected to a controlling device such as the CEVV-VM100 Fog Detector. However, the controlling device may be something as simple as a toggle switch. A second unit is then configured as a Receiving Unit (RU) and connected to a remote indicator such as a navigational light or sound signal (ex. FA-232). The BL2030(0VST9) SBC within the CU monitors the operation of the controlling device, CEVV-VM100 Fog Detector, until there is a change in the condition being monitored. The CU unit will then transmit this change to the RU to either turn on or turn off the remote device. The BL2030(0VST9) SBC used in the 1SG38-RRASS is also capable of monitoring other conditions such as a failure timeout, manual test, or board failure and to initiate the required action between the two units. 2.
