The U.S. Department of Commerce, NOAA, plans to procure 10 electronic transmitter enclosures (TSL P/N 1088-200-20, NSN 4940-01-436-8772) for the National Weather Service’s Automated Surface & Operation System (ASOS) spare parts program. These enclosures house critical circuitry for the ASOS Dewpoint Sensor, which measures ambient and dewpoint temperatures vital for aviation weather data and climatology. The government identifies TSL in Fort Walton Beach, FL, as the suggested and preferred source due to the specialized nature of this product. Using an alternative vendor’s enclosure would require costly modifications and extensive testing, which are deemed impractical. The procurement will follow FAR Part 12 guidelines for commercial items, with a small business set-aside under NAICS code 335999. Although TSL is the preferred source, the government invites all interested and capable vendors to submit their information within 10 calendar days of the notice publication for potential consideration. Firms must provide detailed capability statements and references for prior provision of the item. Responses will be used to determine whether to proceed with a competitive procurement. Registration with the Central Contractor Registry (CCR) and compliance with relevant FAR provisions are required for participation. The designated points of contact for this requirement are Edward H. Mackey and Karen L. Christian.

NOAAPort Replacement Capabilities
Solicitation # 142083-27-0002
The Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the National Weather Service (NWS) have issued Request for Information (RFI) No. 142083-27-0002 to conduct market research for the replacement of the legacy NOAAPort Satellite Broadcast Network (SBN). The government is seeking information on innovative, high-reliability distribution capabilities—which could be cloud-based, terrestrial, satellite, or hybrid—to deliver mission-critical weather data to a geographically dispersed user community. The replacement system must support the exchange, ingestion, processing, and distribution of data products and must integrate with the NWS Hydrometeorological Interactive Virtual Environment (HIVE) and the Centralized Integrated Real-Time Repository for Unified Services (CIRRUS) using common internet protocols such as APIs and MQTT. This notice is for planning purposes only and is not a solicitation for award; no funds have been authorized or appropriated for this effort at this time. The NWS intends to deactivate the legacy SBN as early as August 31, 2027, and is requesting industry feedback on technical architectures, cloud migration strategies, security protocols, and rough order of magnitude cost estimates. Interested respondents must submit their responses in Microsoft Word or PDF format to the designated points of contact by October 29, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. Eastern Time. The government is utilizing this RFI to inform its acquisition strategy and evaluate potential small business set-aside opportunities under NAICS code 541512.
