AI Contract Overview

NASA/DFRC is seeking to procure specific VME computer hardware and software to support the operation of the SOFIA observatory. The requirement includes ten commercial air-cooled 6U VME Single Board Computers with MPC7448 processors, ten VxWorks BSPs for RIO4 Single Processor, one Linux Toolbox Adapter for RIO4, and two RS 232 cables. The government intends to purchase these items from CES West LLC, as they are the original manufacturer of the custom boards. Using a different manufacturer would necessitate extensive retesting and development lasting over a year, which would severely disrupt observatory operations. This acquisition is being conducted as a commercial item under FAR Part 12. Interested organizations were invited to submit their capabilities and qualifications by June 03, 2013, to help the government determine if the procurement would be conducted on a competitive basis.
