The Department of Veterans Affairs issued a requirement for electric surgical stretcher-chairs specifically designed for eye procedures to allow patients to remain on a single surface from pre-operative to post-operative stages. The equipment must meet strict technical specifications, including a load capacity of 500 to 550 pounds, rechargeable power, flammability-rated memory foam cushions, and specific dimensions for seat width, length, and height. Key functional requirements include a reclining backrest, Trendelenburg and reverse Trendelenburg positioning, an automatic extending footrest, and an adjustable headpiece. The chairs must also feature a brake and steer caster system, self-storing push bars, and include accessories such as oxygen tank holders, telescoping IV rods, wrist rests, and a removable foot extension. The procurement was categorized under NAICS Code 339113 for Surgical Appliance and Supplies Manufacturing and required a minimum seven-year warranty on the frame and welds and a two-year warranty on components. While the initial notice served as market research to determine contractor capability and interest, the requirement resulted in an award. Contract 36C25219P0323 was awarded to The Janz Corporation on December 20, 2018, in the amount of 54,031.36 dollars.
