65 -- Obtain Viral Sequence from Samples Using Metagenomic Scale Sequencing

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention intends to issue a sole source purchase order to 454 Life Sciences, 16 Commercial Street, Branford, CT 06405, for metagenomic scale sequencing from viral sample sequences. Library preparation will be performed by the 454 R&D group using eight samples containing low-titer virus sequence and ultra broad PCR products. The resulting libraries will be sequenced using the 4-lane format and 200bp protocol, and the quality-filtered reads quality scores will be delivered to the customer in FASTA file format. This DNA sequencing technology will be used in conjunction with existing Pan-Microbial array technology for identification of unknown pathogens. This protocol was developed with collaborators at Columbia University and was designed and optimized for sequencing with 454 Life Science sequencing technology. CDC believes that this requirement is met by only one provider. This procurement will be processed under the authority of FAR 6.302-1 and 6.302-2. Only one responsible source and no other sources will satisfy agency requirements. No solicitation is being issued.
