The VA Long Beach Network 22 Logistics Office, acting for the VA San Diego Healthcare System, is awarding a delivery order to Philips Medical Systems CMS for the purchase and upgrade of physiological monitoring systems. This procurement, estimated at 527,614.94 dollars for the open market component, includes new telemetry and wireless monitoring capabilities, software updates, and hardware enhancements. Key additions include wireless monitors with Microstream CO2 capability for sleep apnea patients, device location tracking for rapid response teams, and acuity adaptable monitoring to improve patient care across high acuity departments. This acquisition is being conducted as a non-competitive procurement under FAR 6.302-1 because Philips Medical Systems is the only provider capable of meeting the requirements. The facility currently relies on a proprietary Philips 1.4GHz wireless network and dual database servers. Utilizing another vendor would result in incompatibility with the existing complex infrastructure, whereas continuing with Philips ensures seamless data transfer, commonality of operating systems, and continuity of care across the ED, DOU, PACU, and ICU. The contract also includes specialized clinical training for VA staff to ensure proper equipment utilization.
