The Department of Veterans Affairs at the Louis Stokes Cleveland VA Medical Center intends to enter into a sole source procurement for saphenous vein grafts, specifically from CryoLife, Inc., located in Kennesaw, Georgia. The decision to pursue a single source contract is based on the determination that only CryoLife can meet the immediate medical needs of veterans requiring this prescribed item. The choice is grounded in the attending physician’s prescription, who has deemed these specific vein grafts necessary to provide the best care for the patient’s condition. The government believes no other vendors reasonably satisfy the requirement, justifying sole source negotiations under FAR 13.106-1(b)(1). Potential contractors interested in expressing interest or demonstrating capability to fulfill this requirement were invited to respond by a specified deadline in August 2018. Responses would help determine if competitive procurement is warranted, though the decision to open the requirement to competition rests solely with the government. There was no solicitation open at the time, and all communications and inquiries had to be directed via email to the designated contracting officer. This contract falls under NAICS code 339113 and is managed by the Department of Veterans Affairs’ Network Contract Office 10 located in Dayton, Ohio.
