The Louis Stokes Cleveland Veterans Affairs Medical Center plans to enter into a sole source procurement agreement with Hansen Medical for the acquisition of the Sensie Robotic Arm, a specialized device designed to assist in catheter insertion. This procurement will follow commercial item procedures under the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) Part 12 and is justified under FAR 6.302-1 for other than full and open competition, as Hansen Medical is believed to be the sole provider of this unique technology. The Sensie Robotic Arm offers significant advantages, including remote catheter control in three dimensions, an extremely tight bend radius for accessing difficult cardiac anatomy, and rapid, precise catheter manipulation that effectively extends the physician’s reach and enhances control during procedures. While the notice is not a solicitation for competitive quotes and no formal solicitation document exists, other firms that believe they can meet the detailed performance requirements are invited to submit written notification to the Contracting Officer within seven days of the announcement's publication date, accompanied by supporting evidence demonstrating compliance capabilities. The evaluation of these responses will help determine whether the procurement will remain sole source or become competitive. If no qualified responses are received, the VA Medical Center will proceed with negotiations exclusively with Hansen Medical for the Sensie Robotic Arm to aid in catheter insertion procedures.
