The VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System plans to award a sole source contract to Merit Medical Systems, Inc. for the purchase of FDA-approved Tracheobronchial Stents, with an estimated value of $45,600. These stents are used in surgical procedures at the VA facility and are considered prosthetic implants under Department of Veterans Affairs regulations. The VA is authorized to procure these prosthetic appliances without full and open competition under specific federal statutes and VA acquisition regulations, justifying the sole source acquisition. The relevant product numbers for the stents include a range of models tailored to meet the clinical needs of the VA healthcare system. Although this is a sole source intent notice and not a solicitation for competitive proposals, parties interested in submitting information or supporting documentation may do so by the specified deadline, allowing the contracting officer to determine if competition is warranted. The procurement falls under NAICS code 339113 with a small business size standard of 500 employees. The contracting activity is based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, with Jack Pawlik serving as the point of contact for inquiries. This notice serves as an official communication of the VA’s intent and provides an opportunity for other vendors to express interest, but ultimate discretion regarding competition lies solely with the contracting officer.
