The Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center issued a notice on September 27, 2006, for the procurement of several IVENT 201 ventilators, intended for a sole source negotiation with TRI-ANIM HEALTH SERVICES. The agency believes TRI-ANIM is the only provider capable of supplying these specific ventilators, and as such, no competitive solicitation or telephone requests are being accepted. This action is conducted under FAR 603.2 authority, and firms that believe they can meet the requirements for the IVENT 201 ventilators were given a brief two-day window to submit written notifications and supporting evidence demonstrating their capability to the Contracting Officer. If no other responses are received within that timeframe, the VA Medical Center planned to proceed directly with sole source negotiation with TRI-ANIM HEALTH SERVICES. The notice emphasizes that any evaluation of alternative vendors’ submissions and the decision to open competition remain solely at the Government’s discretion. The point of contact for the procurement is the Contracting Officer at the VA Medical Center in Brecksville, Ohio, with written responses to be faxed to the contracting office.
